In 1941, Tractel invented the Tirfor winch—a traction and lifting device using a continuous wire rope. This groundbreaking invention set the standard for portable lifting solutions. Since then, Tractel has continued to refine the Tirfor through patented innovations, ensuring durability, reliability, and versatility. Today, it remains widely used across many industrial applications.

The uniqueness of the Tirfor lies in its design. It has no wheels or gears. Instead, two jaw blocks alternately grip and drive a wire rope, moving an attached load in the chosen direction, much like two hands pulling a rope.

In the electrical industry, the Tirfor is especially valued for its reliability and adaptability in demanding environments. It is widely used for positioning and installing electrical transformers, erecting power line structures and poles, tensioning guy wires and overhead lines, and handling heavy switchgear and substations. The Tirfor also plays an important role in raising and lowering equipment for maintenance and inspections, as well as supporting the safe installation of electrical infrastructure in confined or remote locations.
