Equalizer Flange Alignment: Case Study - Extended Reach Tool
The Problem:
The notorious flange-joint was difficult for the operator to align based on the longer than usual flange size. Standard Equalizer tools are too small as Equalizer FA9TE had insufficient wing-reach for this flange-joint. Tool modification is required – calculations, development, and testing.
The Solution:
New Extended Reach Hydraulic Alignment tool proposed. Down-rated hydraulics specified to prevent overload caused by increased torsional stresses due to longer wing.
