alkitronic® CLD Series Pneumatic Torque Wrench: Now You’re Torquing

An oil refinery required two large valves to be opened and closed twice daily for cleaning purposes.

The refinery were using cheap torque multipliers to loosen and re-tighten the bolts on the valves.

This cheap, “easy fix” turned into a regular expensive exercise for the plant, which consumed a large percentage of the refineries annual budget (due to these two tools).

It was obvious that a more cost-effective torque solution was required to avoid any further monetary losses as a result of the seemingly constant maintenance on what initially seemed like an inexpensive solution.

After an in depth demonstration of the alkitronic® CLD Series Torque Wrenches, the refinery elected to go with the CLD Series to solve their issues.

The alkitronic® CLD Series are heavy-duty units for applications from 60 Nm to 9,800 Nm (approx. 44 to 7,200 Ft/lbs).

With eleven models ranging from 3/4" to 1 1/2" square drives, these high-quality German-made pneumatic torque multipliers are widely used in mining, industrial, oil and gas and many other applications.

The CLD Series are qualified for environments with an increased hazard of explosion and they shut-off when the pre-set torque is achieved.

They provide better joint quality compared to impact or hydraulic wrenches as they allow continuous rotation of the square drive.

A simple one-finger action is all that is required to alternate between right and left operation and an optional facility to lock the gear in a fixed position is also available.

The robust motor housing is manufactured from cast aluminium with a reliable pneumatic drive.

After implementing the CLD Series Torque Multipliers, over time, the plant saw a decline in maintenance frequency and cost.

The CLD’s simple design has less internal parts than ordinary torque multipliers – minimising the frequency of servicing required, which in turn reduces costs.

It is quick, compact and safe – for fast joint assembly – making it the ideal cost-effective torque solution.
